About Us

Durga pujo is not just about celebration and feasting but is also about a feeling of togetherness, a feeling of being one without boundaries and it is this very sentiment that our 'Sarbojonin' Durgotsav Committee upholds. 'Amader Pujo' is all about being 'us', being together. In 1962, a handful of families started the pujo and today, it belongs to numerous families who have claimed ownership of the pujo and has committed themselves completely to make the pujo one which is 'successful'. 'Success' that is not only defined by accolades and trophies but a success where it has been able to uphold the "True Spirit" of Durga puja.

We in the committee understand fully that participation of one and all is integral to the success of our puja. Throughout years we have empowered our daughters, daughters-in-law, brothers and uncles with responsibility and encouraged them to actively participate in the everyday activities of the puja. Starting from preparing bhog for the devi to orgainising the sponsorship, each and every person of the community is an active member.

We have strived to keep the spirit of the 'Durga Pujo' alive in every aspect possible. Our 'pratima' is still 'sabeki' in this world of theme puja, The evening 'aarati' is still one where the dhaak reverberates throughout the pandal and dhunuchi naach is a must. Dashami is still seen as the day we bid goodbye to the daughter that descends to earth for only five days. W e say goodbye to Devi the way each father/mother would say goodbye to a daughter or a brother/sister would say bye to an elder sister.

Perhaps this is why actor Parmbrata Chatterjee deemed it right it to designate this puja as his 'favourite'. To quote the famous Tollywood actor "This is my favourite. Just like barir pujo, really intimate and without frill." (The Telegraph, October 25th,2015)
